Milton Soccer Groups Merge, New Organization Created
Milton, Mass --The town of MIlton's two youth soccer organizations began the new year by merging into one entity.
The groups formerly known as Milton Travel Soccer and Milton Town Soccer are now merged and have renamed themselves Milton Soccer.
Members of the board of directors for each soccer league convened a joint meeting where they voted to merge the organizations and elected a new board.
"Milton Soccer will offer a variety of programs, including youth development, an in-house and travel soccer," said Bob Chen, a board member of the new group. "We expect that every kid can find the soccer experience most suited for them."
The merger, which became effective January 1st, has been in the planning phases for months, with a small subcommittee from each board meeting to work out details regarding finances, league structures and other details. The benefits of the merger include an enhanced soccer experience for the youth of Milton, the ability to pool resources and to ensure that all players have access to increased opportunities at all levels of soccer.
Previously, Milton Town Soccer, headed by President Laurie Jensen, organized an in-town league which operates during the fall season. Players from ages 5 to 15 played in four divisions and all games were played in Milton.
Milton Travel Soccer, headed by President Jim MacLeod, hosts two seasons -- spring and fall. They participate in the BAYS travel league (for players ages 8-18) and run the Youth Development League (YDL ) -- a non-traveling program for children 5-8 years old.
With the creation of Milton Soccer, all programs that have been available in the past will continue to be available. Milton families can still choose either a travel- or non-travel option for their soccer players.
"Joining Milton soccer under one umbrella organization will allow soccer to flourish with better choices and offer better programs for the youth of Milton," said Kevin Morris, another member of the new Milton Soccer board.
"Merging both leagues and joining the two boards has solved one of the ever-present enigmas of playing soccer in Milton," said Bob Chen. "Now, if we could just get enough high quality fields, there would be no stopping us."
Within a few months, all communication for the merged leagues will be handled by the new Milton Soccer website: www.miltonmasoccer.org. Until that time please use the current websites:
